A Bit About Tea
The History of Tea
Tea has a wonderful storied history; first documented in China, tea can be traced back as far as 2700 BC. Among the many myths that surround the early discovery of tea, there is one that tells of the emperor Shen Nung; as he was boiling water under a tree, a couple of tea leaves fell into the pot. The rest is tea history.
In the 3rd century AD, tea became the national drink of China, and in the 8th century AD, the first truly all-in-one text regarding tea “The Cha Chang” was written down by a man named Lu Yu, who had worked for 20 years on the text. As China was a great trading partner the word, the taste of tea began to spread throughout the world.
Today, tea is the second most popular drink in the world behind water, and as the West learns more about the healthful effects of this tasty drink, it is becoming more popular all the time.
There are 5 different basic types of tea: Black, Green, Oolong, Yellow, and White. Some folks say there are only 4 types of tea. Black, Green, Oolong, and White. We will include Yellow tea, so you are aware of it. As you explore tea, you may find a type of tea that you enjoy most. Black teas are generally stronger and darker, while Yellow and White teas are very mellow and “fresh” tasting as a rule.
